Museum Educator Internship
With the Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier County
Brief description
This internship supports the association’s goal of providing our community with educational resources regarding African American history and other relevant subjects.
Primary Tasks
Develop, implement, teach, and promote in-person and virtual programs, tours, and other experiences for visitors
Conceptualize strategies to grow pre-K-12 student engagement
Identify schools and school districts for potential partnership opportunities
Participate in museum-wide projects as appropriate
If necessary, provide narrative and statistical program information for museum proposals, reports, and presentations.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of the field of history in education, especially for K-12 students
Ability to appropriately interpret and convey complex themes to a broad and diverse audience
Knowledge of African American history and culture, preferably with a focus in Virginia
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on public speaking
Preferred
Prior teaching and/or tour guide experience in a relevant field
Time Commitment: Beginning of June-Beginning of August.
We offer a flexible schedule and are willing to work with interns to ensure their needs are met. Interns will be expected to work onsite Tuesday’s and Wednesdays while the office is open to the public and will have the opportunity to work remote hours during other weekdays. Interns are required to work between 20-30 hours per week.
