Museum Archivist Internship 

With the Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier County

Brief Description

This internship supports the association’s goal of preserving and presenting historic and culturally significant materials. The position of Archivist primarily consists of inputting data or information into museum collection databases and creating both transcriptions and abstracts of records.

Primary Tasks

  • Create catalogue records for museum material in programs like PastPerfect Museum Software 

  • Write transcriptions and abstracts for primary sources 

  • Keep material organized, ensuring all records and materials are stored in their proper place 

  • Maintain logs of activities and completed work 

  • Assist archival staff with assessing new donations and aid researchers 

Qualifications  

       Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Passion for history (specifically African American history), both in its preservation and presentation to the public. 

  • Familiarity with standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office. 

       Preferred 

  • Data entry experience, preferably with a museum collection software program (Eg. PastPerfect). 

  • Strong organizational abilities. 

Time Commitment: Beginning of June-Beginning of August. 

We offer a flexible schedule and are willing to work with interns to ensure their needs are met. Interns will be expected to work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays while the office is open to the public and will have the opportunity to work remote hours during other weekdays. Interns are required to work between 20-30 hours per week.
