- Emigrants from Virginia to Liberia prior to 1867
- June 2006, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities awarded a Discretionary Grant to the AAHA to support the expansion of an existing database of more than 3,700 emancipated slaves and free blacks known to have emigrated from Virginia to Liberia prior to 1867. The VFH and former VFH fellows Marie Tyler-McGraw, Deborah Lee, Scot French and Reginald Butler collaborative efforts have opened and made available an important chapter in Virginia’s history.
